I am using a PXI 1034e chassis on the Windows 8 system with Labview 12 (x64). My issue is that the PXI connects fine, but when the operator logs out and back in again later the PXI configuration is corrupted in MAX and I have to go into MAX and reset the database and reboot the computer to have it see the PXI chassis and it's card again. Anyone else have this issue or a fix?

ZigBee for PXI

Hello !

Does anyone know how to check if ZigBee is correctly activated on a PXI ?

I have installed NI ZigBee Toolkit 1.0.1 on it.

I did not have any problem during the installation process.

But I have no idea if ZigBee is now activated or not.

Any ideas/tutorials are welcome.

Thank you !

pxi 8360 power led flashes red

I have a PXI 8360 MXI Express board mounted in a PXI 1050 chassis. I am seeing the power LED occasionally flash red and I lose communication with the computer. The power LED will return to solid green status after a few minutes but I am not able to do much with NI DAQ to test the system since it has failed self test. The suspicion here is the power supply may be bad but how do we check that.

The system with the computer has worked well over the past several years and we are concerned about possible damage from a power fluctuation that happened here around Christmas time.

PXI-2527 with C++

Hello,

i have a problem with. I try to controll a PXI- 2527-switch by using c++ and I`m not very familiar with the subject. This is my code so far:

#include "stdafx.h"
#include "niswitch.h"

int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR argv[])

{
    ViSession Name = VI_NULL;
    ViRsrc MUX = "PXI15::14";
    ViConstString channel1 ="ch0";
    ViConstString channel2 = "com0";

    ViConstString topology = NISWITCH_TOPOLOGY_CONFIGURED_TOPOLOGY;

    niSwitch_InitWithTopology(MUX, topology, VI_FALSE, VI_TRUE, &Name);

    return 0;
-------------------------------

If I try to build this I got an error massage:

error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol "_niSwitch_InitWithTopology@20" in Funktion "_wmain".

But the function "niSwitch_InitWithTopology" is defined in the included header "niswitch.h".

Can somebody tell what I did wrong?

Thank you.

Investigating different options related to watchdogs and external power control, and came across a white paper that speaks of Wake On LAN (activating the controller over the Ethernet port).  I see instructions for Windows, but I am using a 8133 running Pharlap.  Is this feature available with this platform/OS combination?  If so, are there instructions for WOL with Pharlap?  Thanks.

Hello All!

I want to have an RF tuning time <= 10 us for both Transmission and reception. Which NI product can be suitable for me if i want a setup like HOST (host.vi) --> FPGA(fpga.vi) --> DAC --> RF board (RF oscillators etc) ? Is any of NI RF board have AGC implemented it or not?

PXI Card Status = Is Not Responding

I am unable to communicate with my NI PXI-7358 motion controller card (NI-Motion 6.1.2 Driver, Max 3.1.1, LabVIEW 7.1, Windows XP).  The general tab in MAX for the card shows that "Device Status" = "Is Not Responding" see attached.  I have un-mapped and re-mapped the remote device.  I have also removed and re-seated the PXI card without any success.  Does this mean the card is no longer functioning and needs to be replaced?  How can I further investigate this issue?

5622- sample length

Hi,

I am usin PXIe-5663 as the receiver in a transceiver where the received signal is a continuous modulated 2.4GHz signal . I want to compute the FFT of the received signal. I read that to compute FFT(x,N) where N is the number of points in the FFT, N must be atleast as large as the number of samples of x[n].

Is there a way to know the number of points in the signal after it is digitized by PXie-5622? I am using NI_Acquire continous I/Q vi. Is the sample length dependen on the I/Q acquistion rate?

Thanks!

Updated LabVIEW, which updated DAQmx 9.8. PXIe-8101 only at DAQmx 9.4. Fix how?

I'm trying to use MAX to navigate to a PXIe-6363 DAQ connected to my PXIe-8101 RT connected on my LAN, but am encountering an error : "Error -88716 occurred at Device Communication, Possible Reason(s): The requested operation failed because the versions of a driver installed on the local and remote system are different.  Update the driver so the versions on the two systems are the same.  Remote System: 172.17.2.65, Incompatible Driver: NI-DAQmx Device Driver 9.4.0f0"

This problem occured recently when I updated LabVIEW on my development machine to the latest version (2013 f2), which updated DAQmx on my development machine to v9.8.

While I'm not quite there, I plan on using the PXIe-6363 to analyze an audio signal.  I assume I'll need to have everything reporting properly in MAX before I have a hope of making it work in LabVIEW.

I'm now trying to update the drivers / firmware on the PXIe system to enable full communication between my development system and the PXIe system, and am having problems.

When trying "Select all for Install" for "NI-DAQmx 9.8.0" in the "Add/Remove Software" on the PXIe-8101 system through MAX, I'm getting the error :

This dialog doesn't offer an option to automatically attempt to download or locate the missing packages.  Online searches have revealed no obvious upgrade instructions for my particular case.

I've downloaded and installed DAQmx v9.8 as well as the 2013 RealTime module to my development machine, and am in the process of downloading the 4GB of device drivers.

Is there a suggested method for updating the PXIe-8101 software / firmware to match that of my development machine that doesn't require me trying to manually decipher and download packages?

I've never worked with the PXIe system (or any remote system) with LabVIEW before, and expect this would be an easy fix for someone more experienced in this.

PXIe-8100 RT vs cRIO-9074 & cRIO-9024

$

Hi all,

I'm just wondering whether any of you guys have used PXIe-8100 RT? I would like to know how does this controller performs compared to cRIO platform - namely 9074 or even 9024. The specs of PXIe-8100 RT looks higher than those of cRIO but since the controller is Intel Atom, I'm a bit skeptical. Is there any comparative benchmark?

Appreciate feedback. Thank you.

I have a PXI rack with a PXIe-6341 and was wondering if this module will drive 5v solid state relays or if  I need to

use a relay driver IC between the relay and the DIO lines.

I have a PXI-1050 and cDAQ-9174.

The PXI has the following analogue input boards:

2 x SCXI-1102C

The cDAQ has the following analogue boards:

2 x NI-9105

My question is how to I sync the analogue inputs so I can have one task?

I want to sample a 1000 samples a second.

Thanks

RPM and Angle with PIX 6221

I am working on student project where we are controlling position of dc motor shaft. On the rotor of the motor there is optical encoder which is connected to PIX counter. But for best results of control we must measure speed and angle in same time. In attachment is the vi which we used. In the vi angle measurement is solved with DAQmx, but speed measurement is obtained with taking difference of angle in certain time. This type of speed measurement is sensitive to speed of loop and suffers from overflow of registers. Precise speed measurement is needed because of controlling dynamics of dc motor.

So is it possible to measure speed/frequency and angle from same CTR in DAQmx?

Sorry if solution is obvious, but we are new to LV.

Our manufacturing facility currently has multiple testers with the PXI 8176 control units. We also have the PXI-8186 and anothe one controller that is one generation newer..  What I would like to know from NI. is a location where I can find a list such as this one.

I am prepareing a document to upgrade our test units.  several years ago we purchased a replacement on ebay..it didn't last long.

ni-5114 scope interfaced to NI 2576 relay multiplexter and to a test signal via Coax, noise issues

$

Hi,

We are using a system connected as follows and have some questions about the best method to interface to our Design Under Test.

DUT(Test Point[n])  --------> 6ft Coax Cable  ------>96pin connector(interface board) --> NI 2576 ----> NI 5114

Note1: the 96pin interface board and the NI equipment share the same ground plane.

Note2: We have tried with changing the NI5144 scope setting to 50ohm and 1M ohm but don't seem to see a difference on our potential noise issue.

The questions are:

1) What is the best place to ground the shield of our coax cable, the DUT side (to board ground) or to the 96 pin side?

2) We currently have the shield connected to the 96pin side and it is bringing in some potential noise to our DUT test Point signals,  we have added a 100 ohm series resistor  close Testpoint and it helps resolve the issue, however it is not acceptable to have this resistor in the cable harness per our client and we are trying to find an additional option to solve this potential noise issue.

Any help and guidance on this is appreciated.

Miguel

PC-to-PC using PXImc

Hi all,

I've been reading some articles on PXImc. It seems like what I need. There are some points that I hope somebody here can help to clarify.

1. In one of the articles, it says that we can daisy chain the systems. For clarification purposes, this means that I can connect a PXI to a PC and from this PC to another PC/PXI... Is my understanding correct? Does this also means that I can use this approach to connect just PC to PC without having a PXI in the chain?

2. What data types are supported? Can I transfer 2D or 3D array of double? Also, is image-type data supported (without having to change it to 2D array of pixel values)?

Thank you.

RT Multiple timed loops application

$

Hello!

I have a RT application over PXI 8196, using 7350 motion module for control on 8 stepping motors and 8 piezo actuators (by voltage AO).

Using LV 11 and LVRT

The previous version (written in LV 8) of the application was assembled from the following:

  • Slow while loop for DAQ from host
  • Fast while loop for controlling all piezo and SM channels in my systems (using a simple compensation code)

After exploring timed loop mechanisms I decided to replace the loops to timed loops w/ different periods.

In addition, I tried separating the channels into 6 different channels with same priority and period.

After doing that I get bad behavior in the last channel (it performs high overshoot which causes my system a drift)

Are my modifications are good RT practice?

If so, why does this last channel behaves in such an awful matter?

Thanks,

Yakir.

PC control of PXI cards without PXI chassis

$

It would be very inefficient to buy a PXI chassis with one one card in it . So my question is if a PXI chassis is required to use an PXI card ?

Is there any adapter card that would allow PC's PCI/PCIe to control a single PXI card (without chassis) ?
Thanks.
