Can PXI-5114 fit into PXIe 1085 Chassis

MY company plan to buy the PXIe 1085 chassis. But we also want to use PXI module: PXI-5114, PXI-5404, PXI-5406 and PXI-6723. From the picture on the website, sounds like they can not fit into the Hyberid slot of the PXIe-1085 chassis? Is that true?  I want to be clear about this before we purchase.

Thanks,

Hans

Data acquisition devices not displaying under the chassis in MAX after updating NI drivers

We are using a PXI-1031 chassis and 3 PXI-6143 devices for our Geometrics MetalMapper. Also the chassis only appears in MAX as "unidentified" and PXI-1031 is not displayed in the list in "Identify As"

PXI-5402 timeout error

I am running into an issue with the PXI-5402 Function Generator card in my system. First, here is the configuration of my system:

PXI Chassis (1045)

PXI-8361 controller card (MXI-Express) controlled by a remote computer running the PCI-E controller card.

PXI-5402 Fgen running niFGEN 2.9 software

PXI-4070 DMM

SCXI 1001 w/ multiple modules, controlled through DMM

PC is running Windows XP w/ SP3

The issue I am having is when I try and command an output wave through the NI soft panel, I get a timeout error (-200221). When I run the Self Calibration, I get the same error. The card is showing up in the MAX software with no issues. I can run the Self-Test and it returns successful. I put this 5402 into another system that is using the MXI-4 interface and everything works fine (verified output of Fgen using a DMM). So, this points me to the MXI-Express interface. I read about the PCI-Express compatability software, but it says to only use it if the computer will not boot or if the NI PXI cards do not get recognized in MAX. Should I try to install that software to see if it resolves my issue? I also have a DMM card (PXI-4070) that seems to blue screen Windows XP when trying to read a resistance using the niDMM_32.DLL (it works about 1 time out of 7) (message posted on here a week ago for that). It will read through the test panel in MAX though. I am also controlling an SCXI chassis through the DMM card, and every once in a while the SCXI modules can't be accessed (using my program or MAX). I thought the DMM card was going out, but with the Fgen card doing weird things, I wonder if the PCI-Express bus is causing all of it.

I did look in my computer BIOS settings, and here is what is listed for the PCI-Express bus:

American Megatrends BIOS:

PCI-Express Settings:

Relaxed Ordering - Disabled

Extended Tags - Disabled

Maximum Payload - Auto

Maximum Read Request - Auto

ASPM Support - Disabled

Extended Synch - Disabled

Link Training Retry - 5

Link Training Timeout - 100 (micro seconds)

Unpopulated Links - Keep Link on

Any thoughts on why the card is not working in this system? The fact that it works fine in a system using MXI-4 points to the interface. Should I try the compatibility software to see if that solves it? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Creating a task with a PXI-2522

I am trying to create a task with a PXI-2522 module, this is a relay output module and I need to create a digital output task.Simply trying to create a digital output task with MAX, the PXI-2522 doesn't show up in the supported physical channel list? I've tried creating the task dynamically in LabVIEW and that doesn't work either. I must be missing something really obvious?

I am using LabVIEW 2013 f2 with DAQmx version 9.8.0f0

PC controlled PXIe system

Hi all,

I have to make a optimal test system with NI hardware configuration for a application where the system has to simulate Serial interfaces, MIL STD 1553 interfaces and analog ,Digital O/Ps & I/Ps. So the NI modules for the best matching for this requirement were NI PXIe4322,4300,6363, PXI 6624, 8430/4,8431/8 ,Pickering  two rtd PXI cards and one PXI 1553 card in  PXIe chassis 1075 with controller PXIe 8840. BUT this current configurations price goes out of the budget what we had expected. due to this I'm thinking to make this as part PXIe system and part PCI system by taxing 6363,6634, serial interface cards and MIL 1553 card with a PCI/PCIe platform and retaining rest of the card with the Chassis in the PXIe platform and eliminating controller PXIe 8840. So can I use MXIe controllers to implement this type test system so that I can place all pci cards in a high-end industrial PC and PXIe and PXI modules in PXIe chassis (1075/1065/1078 any one of them)? If yes please guide me which MXIe controller to select and what would be the compatibility issues that might occur with this type of system in future.

Thanks

PC workstation with full PCI bus numbering (ie. 256)?

Hi there!

I have a problem with DELL Optiplex 7010 and two PXIe chassises connected to it like this:

PC PCie8372      port 1 ->              3 meter cable ->              PXIe-8370 ->      Chassis 1 PXIe-1065

                               port 2  ->             3 meter cable ->              PXIe-8370 ->      Chassis 2 PXIe-1075

Problem is that in Windows event log nipxirfk service complains that  "PCI Host Bridge: Maximum bus number limit reached before enumerating all devices,  status = -313563"

When I have tried different things to solve the problem like removing PCI bus GPIB card and switching PXIe chassises to different ports on PCIe card, half of the PC USB ports have stopped working and when I have changed something else the other half stops working :smileyhappy:

PC has limited bus numbers availability:

===NI Resource Root Bus Detection Utility===
This utility determines the number of PCI/PCI Express root bus
devices on your system and whether there are any bus number
range limitations that could cause hardware problems.

===SUMMARY===
Single root bus detected.
Your system has a single PCI root bus.
Root bus has a limited range.
Your system BIOS has a set limit on the range of bus numbers
you can assign to your PCI tree. In Windows XP, this limit is ignored
and has no impact. In Windows Vista and later, the limit is strictly
enforced and cannot be exceeded. As such, the amount of MXI-Express
hardware you can attach is limited. Refer to the bus number range
below for your system's limitations.

===DETAILS===

----- Root Bus: ACPI\PNP0A08\0 -----
Bus Number Range: [0, 3e]
Status: Device is running

This utility ran with no errors.

So I take there just isn't enough PCI bus numbers available on this PC to allocate enough resources to all connected devices. There is nothing left on PC PCI bus that I could remove or nothing that I could disable from BIO, in fact I have to put back PCI GPIB card and that will eat resources further. Both PXIe chassises are about half full of instruments and I need to add few more card to one of them. PC BIOS is up to date. I have been sorting out details with NI support already but they do not have solution yet. Our lab has two older HP/DELL workstations (no longer available) with limited PCI bus numbering that work with the same two chassises just fine. I think this problem is PC BIOS related and my computer is just on the limit of not working.

Basically I need to know some current PC workstation that people have used succesfully for controlling atleast two (2) PXIe chassises. If you could check you workstations PCI bus numbering capability with this NI tool:

http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/BF84B75E08D2A7708625763B00670007?OpenDocument

And posting the results here I would be very grateful.

data delay for acquisition

$

Hi everybody,

I am using a PXIe-6548 board to send datas to a FPGA and then acquiring the results. I use HSDIO 2.0.

I have problem to acquire the right datas, the efpa has an internal delay according to its application (adder, inverter, shift  register, etc.) and I think this delay may distrub the measure (in high frequency).

I've tried to use data delay but I don't really know which value I have to put there. Especially that I'm sweeping the frequency -> Does the delay value has to change or it has to remain constant?

I'm not sure if I have to put the data delay on the acquisition, generation or the clock.

Another thing which can be be disturbing my measures is that among the generated data there is the clock use by the FPGA to calculate the output (which I try to acquire properly).

Please find a part of my VI attached,

Thanks in advance,

Alexandre

PXI system crashes after updating computer

$

Hi folks,

I ran into this issue after updating my old Dell Pricision Desktop ( 32bits Win XP, some dual core processor and 2G ram) to a HP Elitedesk G1 tower with 32bits Windows 7 pro, i5 processor, 4G ram. The problem is that I believe the PXI system is crashing my new computer randomly. I occurs during bootup glowing Windows logo screen, login screeen, or anytime in the Windows environment with or without using the PXI system. For certain if I ran the PXI system (DAQ or DCPWR) for 1 to 2 minutes, the system would hang, or display a error message (error -50152). Then if I attempt to restart the operation, the computer would hang. The computer itself runs normally when PXI is powered off.

The PXI system I have is a 1033 chassis and MXI card, 6052E DAQ, 2576 MUX, and 4110 DCPWR. The drivers are DAQMX 9.9 and DCPWR 1.9. The drivers are installed properly and Windows recognizes the hardwares correctly. I have ran the system on my old computer for 2 years without a problem. I know how to operate the system properly.

I read a report in NI.com stating possible ram conflict with 64bit system or 32bit system with 4G ram when 3rd party hardware is involved. I tried disabling PAE and DEP in Windows and in BIOS but it didn't work. Still have the same failure modes. I even tried downgrading my RAM to 2G. Still no luck.

I also installed the PXI system on another Dell Optiplex desktop with i3 processor, 4G ram, 32bit Win 7. It worked perfectly.

Anyone have suggestion how I can make the PXI work on my new HP desktop? Changing PC is the last option.

Thank you.

Mike

PXI-1052 not detecting SCXI chassis

$

Full disclosure:  I've submitted a support request on this too, but knowing that it may take some time to go through I thought I'd ping the discussion boards for any ideas people here might have as well.

I have a PXI-1052 PXI/SCXI combo chassis with a PXI-6289 card serving as the SCXI controller. Up to this point, the chassis has been controlled by a PXI-8105 embedded controller running WinXP. We are changing this. The PXI-8105 controller is being removed and instead we will use an MXI card (PXI-8360) to allow us to control the chassis via an external computer running Win7 32-bit.

With the chassis on and connected, using the Win7 computer I can see the PXI slots and the cards in them are correctly identified by model number. However, I cannot see the SCXI portion of the chassis, and when I try to manually add an SCXI chassis I am told that there is no DAQ device installed to serve as the SCXI controller. In addition, the PXI-GPIB card which is also installed is acting a little strangely. It allows me to scan for instruments, and it sees all of my GPIB instruments OK, but I don’t see a GPIB bus defined separately under Devices and Interfaces the way I did on the old controller—the instruments just show up listed under the PXI card.

I have read the Knowledgebase article on auto-detecting SCXI instruments, but it doesn’t seem to offer anything helpful. Everything works fine if I put the old controller back in and use it again, so this isn’t an issue of a bad card/chassis or the wrong card or a blown fuse or SCXI power not being on/set correctly or the DAQ being in the wrong slot. (The ONLY hardware difference is the controller being replaced by MXI; everything else is exactly the same.) All NI software on the Win7 machine is installed and up-to-date, and I even reinstalled everything just to make sure I hadn’t gotten a bad install. It seems to me like it must be either a driver or a configuration issue, but I’ve combed through the Windows Device Manager and the settings for all cards involved and can’t find any differences.

Screen shots attached.  Any ideas?

Choosing between NI PXI 2596 and 2597

Hello

I am in need of switching for RF application upto 20 GHz. PXI 2596 (Unterminated)  and 2597 (Terminated) seem to be good candidates. Both can go upto 26 GHz with relatively low VSWR and IL.

The open channel isolation is identical at 60 dB upto 18 GHz.- see page 2 in http://www.ni.com/pdf/products/us/pxi2596_2597_2598_2599.pdf

By channel isolation I am assuming it is isolation beween any of the 6 signal Channels. Is that correct ?

Why would then someone choose 2597 over 2596 if the specs are identical. What benefit does the termination provide ?

By terminating  the unused Channels, signal energy coupling is minimized between the active Channel  that is connected to common and the other unused Channels. Shouldn't that be captured in the Channel Isolation spec ?

I am confused why one would order the 2597 which is more expensive and occupies 1 slot more than 2596.

Please help me understand. thanks

How can I go about resolving this please?

Can I use differential ground with PXI 6704?

I attempting to use DAQmx and the AO pins of the PXI-6704 to output a current.

I have attached some conflicting information I have read in the User Manual for the PXI-6704. One page indicates that I can use either floating or grounded load when the device outputs a current, and the other page indicates all the AO pins are connected to the computer system's ground. Only the latter seems to be true.

I have also attached a photo of a probe measurement on the SCB-68 at AO ground pin 68 (channel 16), attached to the PXI 6704, which is powered on but not active in the photo. Between the body of the SCB-68 and the AO GND pin 68, I find a very high resistance. The AO GND pins are all grounded.

Has anyone used the PXI-6704 for an Analog Output current with floating ground successfully? Is there a setting or property in Labview that I need to use to have floating ground?

Thanks,
I.G.

hi

Liusdi & Matt_L

Iam using PXIe-5451 signalgenerator, when the Underflow occurs in Endpoint FIFO the Active LED on the module gets Red and it doesn't effect my application(means FGEN still aquiring the samples from endpoint FIFO).

Can we continue to use the module when it is in this condition ? or shall we have to stop the application ?

How do I read the CJC value on TB-2627 connected to a 2527 switch. Using a PXI-4070

I'm trying to use the CJC value on the 2627 TB. The samples and the switch convert voltage to temperature value all ask for this. How do I get the actual value. I've read the white page about using it with the 2527 switch, 2627 TB and 4070 DMM. It's also advertised that it has a CJC but I can not find anywhere how to actually get this reading. I'm probably missing something simple but I could use some help. Thanks, Mark

In order to minimize interference, I’d like to twist the Signal from a PCB with the Ground from the PCB. I would then like to connect those two lines, through relays, to an Oscilloscope Probe and it’s ground, as in the following schematic (See attachment: sch1)

So I would like to twist the two parallel lines coming from the PCB, and twist the two parallel lines going to the Oscilloscope.

The net result I’m after (if you imagined the relays were not there) would be a complete twisted connection between the PCB and OScope (See attachment: sch2)
