VSA, VSG attenuator

Dear All,

I am little bit have confusion about the attenuator of the VSA and VSG and how to set that in the LabVIEW code.

there is a function called (Attenuator hold) which I enable it, but as I know the attenuator value for the VSA and VSG should be set for a specific value. I am not sure how and where can I set that value.

Is there any of you have an idea how to mange that, and what would happen if the attenuator value is not being set.

Thank you

best regards

Hello. I have a NI-PXIe-1071 chassis with a PCIe-8381 in slot 1 and a PXIe-7961R in slot 2.  When I go into MI MAX, under Devices and Interfaces, the PXIe-7961R does not appear. Does anyone know how to fix this?

PXI-8531 will not boot

Hello everyone,

so I am using the NI PXIe-1073 with Ni PXI 8531 (slot 4 if necessary) and the PCIe-8361. I see those devices in MAX.

The problem is: When i start the NI PXIe-1073 (Power LED & LINK LED work) the PXI - 8531 does not work directly. The CANopen LEDs are off. So when I start a VI, I get the following error codes:
error -2147136878 and error -2147136764.

At this time there is a solid green and red LED at the CANopen LED of the PXI-8531. After I stop the VI, the PXI-8531 work normally with the same VI.
My Question is: How can I boot the PXI, so i can use it directly without any errors?

Grooving Greetings
Trixi

P.S.: When I boot the PXIe-1073 the PC start automatically. Is that normal ?

Faster connection than 10Gbe Ethernet?

I'm currently gathering between 8 to 10 TB of data a day and I'm saving the data to a small RAID device via 10Gbe ethernet.

It needs to be saved to external RAID because it will be shipped daily.

I'd like to improve this by adding a thunderbolt 3 connection which will allow 40Gbps transfer.

I don't see an option available for this? Is there plans to provide thunderbolt 3?

Does the PXIe-8133 have a trusted platform module in it?

I have a PXIe-8133 and the IT infrastructure at work requires that all computers must have a trusted platform module to accept the security software with the approved windows build to go on our network. I poked around in the BIOS but didn't find any options to suggest the 8133 had one. Does anyone know if it does or doesn't or have any experience with that?

Synchronization beetween Windows and PXI

Hi,

I have a system composed of a PXI with no controller (mxi drived), a PXI 6683 card and a Windows pc.

The 6683 is used as a 1588 grandmaster.

I need the system Windows pc time updated by this grandmaster.

What is the best option beetween using Domain Time II of Greyware automation or using a NI PCI-1588 card (if this is a possible solution) ?

Thanks,

PXIe4472

Hi,

We have here several PXIe4472 modules and we were planning to use them for a test. We also have some iepe accelerometers. Going through the specifications of the module I've realised there's a high pass filter with a cutoff frequency of 3.4Hz when AC coupling is enabled. This is a huge problem for us since the first interesting phenomenon we want to capture is likely to happen below that. My question is then, can I enable DC coupling (to get rid of that filter) and still feed the IEPE accelerometers (typically they need a constant 4mA current)? I don't have all the equipment now with me and I cannot test it myself.

Thanks!

PXIe-4112 PPS output shorted after OUT = OFF

Hello,

I observed some strange behavior of PXI-4112 PPS output (trough NI MAX):

 - When PXI-4112 test panel is opened AND Output is OFF --> Out+ and Out- are shorted (checked by handheld DMM)

 - When close test panel --> Out+ and Out- are NOT shorted.

So, why OUT control doesn't provide galvanic switch off ? Is this a normal behavior ?

PXI-4132 remote sence with HighR leads

Hi Colleagues.

Lately I'm having a problem of measuring low R devices with high R leads using PXI-4132 SMU.

Here is my situation: I have on-chip devices that have on-chip resistors as well. I need to do 4 point measurements on this devices to exclude leads contribution to resistance. The problem is that devices are aroung 50 Ohm and leads are 5k-100kOhm. In particular I have the following circuit: Hi and Lo pins of SMU are connected to devices through 7kOhm resistor in series (Hi - 7k -(connection to sense)- device -(connection to sense)- Low) and I'm measuring voltage on remote High/low across device but have 100k lead resistance. (RemoteHigh - 100k - (connection to Ibias lead) - device - (connection to I bias lead) - remoteLow)

I have 100uA bias current, 10V voltage range/voltage limit, SMU not in compliance but I'm still measuring around 7k instead of 50Ohm.

Is there any way to perform these type of measurements or it's outside of SMU "comfort zone"? I do understand that voltage drop across leads getting close to spec 1Vmax, but what is actually limiting the max leads resistance values for PXI SMUs?

Thanks,

Sergiy

PXIe-1085 10MHz Jitter

Hi

I am trying to measure the Jitter of the 10MHz Clock (output from Ext. Ref. (10MHz Ref out)). The specification states that the RMS phase jitter is approximately less than 5ps. However when I measured the rms jitter using two techniques

1. Using Infinium Oscilloscope (EZJIT)  - 66ps (Scope rms of 1.8ps)

2. Using Spectrum analyzer (direct measurement) - 66ps in the Integration BW of 10KHz to 1MHz

May I know, what does specification RMS phase jitter refer to ? (is it periodic jitter or is it total rms jitter). Why is there such a discrepency ?

NI MAX upgrade / configuration issue

$

I recently upgraded a deployment machine from my development machine (remotely, headless). The program will not run since the some cards do not respond.Labwinows / CVI 2017 64 bit deploy.

Upon opening NI MAX, I see similarly named copies of several of the cards with identical aliases. Through software resets, I can determine which are the doppelgangers. I try to delete them and no go. I change the conflicting aliases. Program still cannot resolve instrument. Restart does not help. Shut down, hike across the lab, and reboot. The dopplegangers are still there.

I s there any quick way to erase all data and have NI MAX start anew? Else I will likely have to uninstall NI MAX to fix issue.

Attached in NI MAX report and screen capture.

Thanks in advance,

Greg

PXI-8186 does not detect any cards

Hello, I'm trying to setup a system with PXI-1002. My system includes an oscilloscope card and a function generator card. I can get everything working if i use an external computer and link it with MXI-3. If i use an embedded controller PXI-8186 with Windows XP Pro i can't see any PXI cards except PXI-8186. All the driver is installed, any idea what the problem could be?

Software installed:

NI-SCOPE 15.1

NI-FGEN 2.9.3

NI-DAQmx 15.5.1

Chassi:

#1 PXI-8186

#2 PXI-5112

#3 PXI-5401

Hello colleaguos!

I can't find the date of last calibration in the NI MAX. But on the other device that information exist. Where can I find that ?

What are the best practice methods to maintain NI test stand updated and complete always + "Windows does not have a driver associated with your device [PXIe-5160 (2CH)]"

I just got my new NI modules, workstation and Chassis. I have installed LabVIEW 32, chassis drivers, and drivers that came in USB stick (NI System Driver Set 2017.10 ) and plugged in the PCIe-PXIe cable from the chassis to the host PC.

  1. NI device monitor does not recognize/detect anything
    1. 2018-04-12 13_39_22-.png
  2. NI MAX lists the following devices that are found by host PC but drivers are not available for PXIe 5160
    1. 2018-04-12 13_36_30-PXIe-5160 (2CH) _PCI_VEN_1093&DEV_C4C4&SUBSYS_76D01093&REV_00_8&24F4D4C9&0&00000.png
  3. Does NI Update Service automatically notify me whenever there is a driver update for my modules ? as well as along with other critical updates with respect to NI software?
    1. As you can see, one of the module Astronics PXIe 1209 is a side company that sells their PXIe modules via National Instruments, I had to search for its drivers on http://www.ni.com/downloads/instrument-drivers/
    2. Will I be notified if there is a new version available or  do I have to remind myself to physically go check it?
  4. What are the best practice methods to follow in order to achieve an always well updated system (drivers, versions, etc.).

Any advise is much appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi.

I was trying to do a project with Veristand 2016 in a computer but it doesn't work so far.

So I will try now in a computer with Veristand 2015.

The PXIe has already all the software for 2016 and 2017, Should I remove all this software and install the one for 2015?

PXIe-8133 BSOD with KB4093118

Beware!

I have two PXIe-1065 chassis with PXIe-8133 controllers.  Both have given me the BSOD after the KB4093118 Win7 update.  One system was able to use system restore to recover.  The other is totally FUBAR and I have to do a clean install of Windows to recover.

Of course the recovery media provided by NI is a DVD, which the PXIe-8133 doesn't have.  I copied the DVD to a thumb drive but your OEM install spits out an error saying "CD drive not found" and refuses to continue.  Now I have to go out and buy a USB DVD drive with no guarantee that it will even work.

Any suggestions?

PXI Multiplexer - "Minimum Switch Load" (PXIe-2527)

$

Hi,

I have a question about Multiplexer parameter like "Minimum Switch Load".

The value of this parameter is "20 mV/1 mA" (PXIe-2527)

Does it mean, that for the correct input switch of the MUX i need on the input at least 20 mV or at least 1 mA? or both, or just voltage, or just amperage?

I am asking because i want to use the MUX for switching inputs in 4-wire resistant measurement method. In the first wire pair there will be Voltage about 3 VDC and current about 0,03 mA, in the second pair there will be current about 100 mA and very low voltage.

928-Fatal PCIe error

My configuration:

  1. NI PXIe 1071 chassis
  2. PXIe-PCIe 8282 MXI express connector
  3. PXIe 1209 Astronics pulse generator
  4. PXIe 5160 2 Ch Oscilloscope

After installing all drivers, when I tried to run an example from Astronics pulse generator by choosing the PXI instrument the PC restarts and posts this error message (see attached). The 8381 sits on a x8 slot and these are the troubleshoots I did and still no success:

  • I check if the PCIe card is seated properly in the x8 slot, it was
  • Second, I transferred the card to x16 slot and still the same error

Any other way I can check if the PCIe card is functioning well and communicating back to the chassis? All instruments shows up on NI MAX Tech Report and Configuration report as well.

Any advise is appreciated.

Thanks.
