Hey all. I have a couple PXI chassis located 200-300 meters away from my control center. Security issues prevent me from having anything with non-volatile memory inside the PXI chassis. We can argue about what constitutes non-volatile memory, but at the very least this eliminates "hard drives" including spinners and solid state. Unfortunately this means I can't use most/all PC-based PXI controllers.
I think I need a remote interface to get the data back to the control center. I see NI's fiber optic remote control cards such as PXIe-PCIe8375, but it looks like those are limited to about 100m on fiber. I've also seen a couple fiber optic PCIe extensions from other vendors that claim to work at 250m+. My guess is that I could use that to extend my PCIe way out to the chassis, and then use a short cable to attach to the PXI.
Ethernet might work also (I don't actually need much bandwidth), but I'm not aware of any basic Ethernet crate controllers that don't have hard disks.
Anyone have any of their own opinions about the best way to connect one or more very distant PXI chassis?
Current Setup: PXI 6704 connected to SCB68A. On one of the analog outputs, I have a motor (powered via 24 VDC and controlled by 0-5V via PXI 6704).
During power up (powering up the PXI chassis), 0 volts are shown from the 0-5 V ouput. When I shutdown (i.e. turn off 24 VDC power supply and PXI Chassis, a 3.64 Volt spike develops at the 0-5V output and the motor spins then shuts down as the powersupply is also shut off during this time.
I tried leaving the AO ground open and also grounded to the 24 VDC common. Both result in the same issue.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks for the help.
I have a NI PXI-6682 card in a PXI-1042 chassis with a PXI-8186 embedded controller. I have a startup.rtexe that runs on the controller. Recently I have been loosing my GPS time and possition. Although in MAX, the card passes the self-test, when I bring up the test panels it cannot get any GPS information. It does say that the antenna is connected, but it has no time reference. I don't seem to be generating any errors in MAX. Sometimes, if I have 3-4 satellites, I can get time, but it is incorrect. Is this a hardware problem? This PXI System was purchased maybe 5 years ago and has performed perfectly until a couple of weeks ago.
What is the ene to end pin out of the 192568-1 cable assembly. I am looking to see if the pin out lines up with the 16036 cable from Ballard
I plan to buy the cable(779956-01, 62 pin female to female DSUB ) for connecting the PXI-2568. Since both side of this cable are female. I want to know if this cable is pin1-pin1 mapped? or it is mirrored (pin 1 of one connector connect to pin21 of the other end)? Any datasheets of this cable?
Thanks,
Hans
Hi,
For NI adapter module like NI 5751, it have 16 analog input channel and each channel have a individually ADC.
So my question is whether I can control each ADC seperately?
I just would like to let each ADC works with different start time (the first channel starts acquire and followed another)
Thanks!
Hello,
I use DAQmx on Linux. I am now moving from SL6 to a newer distribution for my new computers. I struggle to get DAQmx to install.
If I try to install DAQmx straight, I get the following message:
Checking required install tools... Checking installer tool versions... dpkg Not found in current path rpm 4.11.3 can be used with a default installation path tar 1.28 Checking dependencies... glibc 2.19 Unpacking install files to /tmp/nidaqmx-8.0.2f0.install... *********************************** ERROR ************************************ * ERROR: 3.16 kernels are not supported! * * Running a 2.6.x kernel is required to continue this installation. * *********************************** ERROR ************************************ Installer is aborted.
Now, I understand that NI-KAL has to be installed first. So, I get it from the latest NI-VISA. NI-VISA 15 installs fine. But now, when I try to install DAQmx, I get this:

Is there any workaroung ?
Or is NI planning on updating the DAQmx installer, so that it is properly packaged with respect to the newer libraries ?
Thank you for your help,
Hi,
I currently have a NI PXI-2565 relay switch and was wondering what the best / recommend methods for connecting to this device with respect to the chasis and at a PCB. I am interested in what the mating connectors should be for a straight through cable and mounting fixture.
Thanks,
Andrew
Hi All,
I recently found our NI PXI-8184 in our company and I wanted to test if we can use the device for our testing purposes.
The first time, I got to its BIOS. I saw the system date was resetted to 1988. I did make some changes on boot options, saved and exited bios. I was able to loging WindowsXP and run LabView.
After turning off the unit, unplug power cable. I removed the PXI-8184 to check on its battery. I found its bios battery voltage is 0 (technically no charge). I got a new battery (3V) and plugged into the system.
Once the power is turned on, there is nothing showing on screen, only black screen. The power LED is ON, LED lights for ethernet cable are ON (one is solid, one is blinking), the Drive LED is off (the hard drive is not even accessed). I checked the hard drive with my external encloser, it seems everything is ok. I can read files from hard drive from my laptop through an external encloser.
I suspect there is something wrong with BIOS. I did reset BIOS by moving jumper to a new location and setting it back to its original place.
The screen shows nothing on bootup, I think the bios is not even loaded.
Any help/inputs to help me to solve this problem would be helpful. Thanks for your replies and inputs.
PS: The Switch Configuration at the moment is Switch1 is ON position (Boot LabView RT) and other switches are in OFF positions
Need to use the SSB Generation vi, what Arb. Waveform Gens. will work for the PXI system? 54xx?
Hi everyone,
is it possible to create this channel emulator https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-26423 using the NI 5792?
Thank you. Best regards
Hi everyone,
is it possible to use this channel emulator https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-26423 in the NI 5792?
Thanks a lot
Hi all,
A test I'm working requires three HD cameras continuously recording different points. I manage to make a small program that records and visualizes the images but something quite strange happens. When I play the saved files, I can see how in each file (recorded by a particular camera) appears frames coming from any of the others two.(???) I am not sure about the reason since the paths seems properly set.
Thanks!
For syncrhonisation (via hardware) of two modlues; one 4330 and 6361, shall I create one master task for the 4330 and then syncrhinise it with the 6361 module? Or create multiple channels say 5 from 4330 and 5 from 6361 and then specify one channel from 4330 to be the master and all the rest modules from 4330 and 6361 to be slave tasks?
Thanks,
Hi,
I'm playing video and saving to a avi file at the same time. Since saving the file is very time demanding I just do it in separate loops. I also cut the video files so I do not have problems with resulting avi file size. My cameras can record up to 20 fps, when I acquire at 5 , 10 , 15 fps, things seem to go OK. The problem appears when acquiring at 20 fps: some of the files obtained (it cuts the recording into 30 seconds video files) are OK, but some are not.
Those which are not OK seem to have random speed, they are accelerated for a while, then back to normal speed, then again accelerated...quite wierd...Any suggestions?
Thanks
Hello,
We are trying to collect strain gage information using the SCXI-1314 module. This is connected to an SCXI-1520 module mounted on SCXI-1000 which then reads into a LabView program to collect the data. We were wondering what the maximum sampling rate for this setup is.
Thanks for the help
Hello!
Can I replace te Operating system for NI PXI-8119 from Windows7 32bit with 64bit variant?
I need to send some PXI modules back for calibration but am unable to get the PXI modules out of the PXI rack and instead
of forcing these and potentially breaking them.
I googled for how to remove the PXI modules, but unfortunately I can only find information online on how to install PXI modules.
Can anyone send me a link to any NI documentation on how to remove the PXI modules from a PXI rack?
thanks
Hope this is the right location for this question: new user here, trying to get a PXI-5402 in a PXI-1031 up and running. I have used MAX, and the generator itself is working fine. But now I'm trying to take an example for Visual Studio provided with FGEN and modify it to operate the PXI-5402 programatically.
The "Basic Signal Generator" example creates a user form with a "scope" where I can modify the frequency, amplitude, etc. and see the result on the scope. But there's no hook to the actual PXI-5402 hardware. How do I modify this example program to get an actual output on the PXI-5402?
Thanks!
