PCIe-8361 Thunderbolt Compatibility

$

Is PCIe-8361 compatible with the Thunderbolt technology? Is there a chance PCIe-8361 board is going to work with Echo Express SE I (Thunderbolt 3 Edition) or similar product? My understanding was that perhaps any PCIe board should work with adapter like the one from Sonnet Tech until I read the specification bellow...

For PCIe card expansion products, there is an additional requirement that each PCIe card's driver must also be compatible with Thunderbolt technology. PCIe cards' Thunderbolt compatibility requirements include: 1) the card driver must enable the correct card ID to be recognized over Thunderbolt, and 2) it must properly support hot-plug/unplug, recover from sleep, etc. as defined in the Thunderbolt device interconnect paradigm.

PXIe-7976R throughput

I am trying to understand the real throughput of NI PXIe-7976R (NI FlexRIO™ FPGA Module for PXI Express).

On the product page it says K410T FPGA, 3.2 GB/s, 2 GB DRAM PXI FPGA Module for FlexRIO

On the Device Specifications I cannot found this information. But it says:

Bus Interface:

Form Factor  x8 PXI Express, specification v2.1 compliant

As 8 is the number of lanes and each lane should transfer data at 250 MB/s per direction (http://www.ni.com/white-paper/3882/en/), it seem to me that the throughput  is 8 * 250 MB/s = 2GB/s.

Is it correct?

and then the v2.1 specification is this one: PXI -1 Hardware Specification Rev 2.1 from http://www.pxisa.org/Specifications ?

PXI chassis not showing in MAX after Windows Update

Hi,

I'm having trouble with my PXIe chassis (PXIe1062Q with MXIe 8381 bridge). Yesterday everything was working fine: the chassis was showing in NI Max (17.5.0f0), code was running on the installed PXIe cards and FPGA. Then windows decided to run and update and restart the system (PC Xeon processor, 64GB RAM) and now my chassis doesn't show up in NI MAX.

I have tried:

Turning off the system, powering down the chassis, removing the cord for 5 mins, powering back up the chassis and restarting the PC.

Powering down the PC and  chassis, removing the MXI PCIe card, restarting the PC, shutting down the PC, putting back the MXI PCIe card and restarting the PC.

"Reset Configuration Data".

I'm about to start uninstalling Windows updates to see if I can identify the one causing the issue.

Any help on solving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ben

Controlling and communicating with PXIe-8821 with external PC, precise timing

$

Hi all,

I have a PXIe chassis with internal chassis controller and an analog input module (controller: PXIe-8821, AI module: PXIe-4302 with TB4302).

I need to trigger data collection digitally, collect and store the data on the 8821, then transfer the data back to the remote PC. The timing needs to be precise, better than 1ms. I have three questions:
1) Can I trigger the PXIe-8821 digitally? There is a 'trig' input on the front panel but the user manual is vague about how this trigger works. It refers the reader to the 'quick start guide' for more information, but there is no more information in the guide.

2) If I can't trigger the data acquisition digitally, how bad is the timing precision with software triggers?

3) I want to communicate with the PXIe system over a local network. The data acquisition will have start and stop triggers, and once the stop trigger is received I would like to send the data collected to the remote PC. Are there any examples of doing something like this I can look at? I am relatively new to LabView, Network communications and TCP/IP protocols. I have read through the TCP/IP documentation but I'm unsure how to put it all together. I've poured through the forum and the examples but haven't found anything useful yet. Can anyone help me by providing an overview or some examples of how I should put this together?
Thanks!

Xilinx FIR Compiler 7.2 configuring issue

Hello everyone,

I am currently working on an oscilloscopic board (8CH - PXIe-5170R) provided with FPGA Kintex 7. I would like to add a FIR filter to process the incoming data, channel by channel, and I tried to use the XIlinx FIR compiler 7.2, configured with a COE coffiecient vector created with Matlab. I didn't select any enable signal, so the IP should work with every sample. The problem is that this filter is continuously returning 0, so basically when my data pass through the filter they are completely eliminated (It is not a matter of cut frequency, because I chose a very high cut-off frequency and passed very low frequency signals). Any tips you can give on how to use this IP? Thank you everyone for your response

When we install the 5122 in our 1062Q chassis with a 8105 controller, we get a blue screen with the error " page fault in nonpaged area " and then it reboots. We were wondering if this is a problem with the chassis, card or software.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Acq_Regional_Clk Error - 1 Gbps Sampling with PXIe 6587

Hello out there,

I have been trying to configure for 1 Gbps sampling for two weeks to no avail. FPGA training course has helped me write better FPGA code, but I still have the same problem whenever I try to use the Acq_Regional_Clk. Simulation works fine, compile goes fine, but then upon loading to the FPGA I get the following error:

"LabVIEW FPGA reported the following error:

An error was detected in the communication between the host computer and the FPGA target.

If you are using any external clocks, make sure they are connected and within the supported specifications. Also, verify that the rate of any external clocks match the specified clock rates. If you are generating your clocks internally, please contact National Instruments Technical Support."

Error.PNG

System Description: PXIe 1071 Chassis, (slot 1) 8100 controller, (slot 2) 7961R FlexRIO FPGA, (slot 2 adapter) 6587, (slot 3) 6341 DAQ.

Description of the attached code: I was originally trying to actually read the LVDS DIO, but then realized I got the same error for simply creating a loop running on the Acq_Regional_Clk. To test if I can use the clock, I have two loops running, a quick and a slow, and I try to pass some data between the two with some FIFOs. There are two versions of this vi, one where the quick loop uses the Acq_Regional_Clk, and a control vi that simply uses the 200Hz clock. Both run correctly in simulation, and the 200Hz version runs perfectly on the hardware. The Acq version, however, errors as described above. In case it was a problem with running in interactive mode, there are pairs of host vis (for both the Real-Time target PXIe chassis and the PC). They experience identical symptoms.

Please help if you have ideas. I'm reaching the extent of my creative troubleshooting.

Thank you in advance.

We need to make PXIe to PCIe adapters for testing facility but couldn't find any XP4/JP4 right-angled male connector for it.

XP3 has an ERNI P/N 204781 but ERNI told us that they don't have XP4 right-angled male (only vertical ones).

Any hints ?

The precision measurement temperature with help PXI-4071

I  consider the variant of the measurement temperature with help PXI-4071.

It is required the precision of measurement.

I found into the specification the RTD with accuracy 0.14 and Termistor with accuracy 0.08.

If I will use the termistor. What kind of termistor I have to use ?

If I will use RTD. Pt3851 RTD - is this type of resistance ? Where can I find that resistance ?

May be is the article about using the mode of temperature measument ?

Anybody used that method ?

Thanks for advance!

Data bottleneck concerns

I have the following configuration setup for my application; and I need help to understand that this configuration will work when put together without having data bottleneck down-streamed to my PC. The configuration is shown in the table below:

PXIe-1071 chassisHolds 5160 + 1209
PXIe-PCIe8381PCI Express (x8 Gen 2) Control of PXI Express
  1. Direct PC control of PXI Express systems
  2. 100 m maximum cable length with rugged latching connectors
  3. Sustained throughput of 3.2 GB/s per direction
  4. What's the PCIe rev on the mobo? What rev does this card support?
PXIe-1209high-performance, 2-channel,
100 MHz Pulse Generator
MCX connectors for output and trigger syncs
PXIe-5160500 MHz, 2.5 GS/s, 10-Bit, 2-ch, 64MB PXI Express OscilloscopeBNC inputs, 50 Ohms i/p impedance

  1. Chassis has a max throughput of 3 GB/s, while the 8381 cable has a max throughput of 3.2 GB/s. They each have their own maximum throughput. That being said, each slot of the chassis only has a maximum throughput of 1 GB/s each. (3 slots x 1 GB/s = 3 GB/s for the chassis). The 4th slot sends the data from the other 3 slots to your computer.
  2. 5160 is 2.5 GS/sec aggregate, so 1.25 GS/sec/Ch at @10 bit resolution.
    1. When they say aggregate, does it mean I can split 2 channels to run at 1.25 GS/sec?
    2. If I intend to use just single channel on 5160, can I run it at 2.5 GS/sec ?
    3. Will the chassis and 8381 PIXe-PCIe card be able to sustain all the data throughput to my host PC if I run the 5160 @ 1.25/GS/Sec/Ch or 2.5 GS/Sec on just one channel?

At the end of the day, having able to read in all the date seamlessly without any issues to the host PC is of utmost importance.

I would really appreciate on any advise over this technical question I have been facing.

PXI 2596, Outputs different simulation results with different Instrument Drivers

Hi all.

I am using the PXI-2596. Basically, it is a Dual 6*1 multiplexer. I have used both the "NiSwitch Connect channels" API and Relay APIs to connect the channels. But both are behaving in a different manner. Which of the below behaviors are correct behaviors?

Behaviour with "NiSwitch Connect channels" API: I have used NI-Switch APIs. I have connected one channel (ch1A) to the common(comA). Then I have tried to connect the (ch2A) to common(comA). Then I got an error with the message "One of the channels is a configuration channel that is in use or is a common multiplexer channel that is in use." This means that we can't connect second channels without disconnecting the first channel. The code which I have used, Error message and Simulated output screenshots are below.

Behaviour with "NiSwitch Relay Control" API: By using this APIs I am able to connect both the relays k1 and k2 without disconnecting k1. So I would like to know what is the correct behavior of the instrument. The screenshot of the code, the Simulation result is below. Also, You can find the VI which has both the codes in attachments

I'm trying to configure a system for a new project.  One of the signals I need to measure is 3.3V, however, the signal also produces just over 6 Amp for 20 W of power. Can the PXI DAQ modules handle it?  Or even the PXI DMM module?

Hi,

Got the ACXX1553-3U-x-DS PXI card in an NI-1045 PXI chassis and after installing the AIM drivers on the PC, it flags up that the drivers weren't installed correctly.  Device manager sees the card but with a driver problem. Anyone used this 1553 card in the PXI-1045 chassis and got it working?

Cheers

Stuart

Hi All,

We are using the PXIe-1071 chassis and PXIe-8840 controller, containing 2 modules:

- NI PXIe-7972R connected to NI 5791

- NI PXI-4461

We would like to share trigger between them, either from 7972R to 4461 or vice versa. Since we want to send signal from both module at the same time. How do we accomplish that?

Thanks,

What is the input impedance of the Vch measurement amplifier?

I am interested in measuring a very high (100M-ohm+) resistance full bridge and I'm concerned a typical 1M-ohm input impedance will load the bridge but I can't find the specification in the documentation anywhere.
